Monograms versus initials

...Initial Etiquette...
Initials are simply the first letter of each name---for instance Mary Jo Smith---in initial form is MJS.  All letters are the same size with no emphasis on any one.

...Monogram Etiquette...

Ordinarily your monogram is created with your last initial in the center, flanked by your first and middle initial. For instance, Mary Jane Smith would appear M S J. The "S" will be the largest letter in the center of the three letter monogram.

Please note, when you order from ElizaJayCharm, we require monogram format.   In order to reduce errors on our part, our policy is to copy and paste exactly what you give us.  We do not rearrange initials to create monograms.

New acrylic colors

Oh, the joy of color, beautiful color!  Coral has been hot, hot, hot this year...and we've finally received our custom made coral acrylic!  Now you can wear ElizaJayCharm in one of the year's most popular, and versatile, colors.

Also added today is our gorgeous electric green.  This is a semi-translucent acrylic that is a mish-mash of apple green, lime green and neon green.  Though it is neither of those three exactly, it is a striking combination of all.  Fantastic for a pop of color with those monochromatic color schemes everyone wears in the fall and winter months.

Not to be outdone, our newest "shocking pink" is a sight to behold.  It is a cross between the hottest of hot pinks and neon pink.  A real attention getter!

Monogram Styles

What will your monogram look like?  It's hard to say exactly because all monograms are different in the way the letters work together.  Here are a few photos of our two best-selling monogram styles.  The charts will give you a general idea of we will design your monogram jewelry.

CIRCLE MONOGRAM

While this is one of our two top selling monogram styles, I must warn you---there are a couple letters that just don't make me do cartwheels.   In the interest of full disclosure I must admit that at my age, I don't do any gymnastics anymore, but I digress...  If the first letter of your name begins with a D, J or an L, please note they are as shown and can come out a little wonky.  I've made thousands of monogram necklaces and have yet to figure out a way to make these letters look any different (or better) than they do below.  I use "bars" to connect my circle monograms almost all the time.  Bars are my preferred look for circle monograms.   In some cases, such as when the letters F, L, T or Y begins a monogram, I may use a circle connector.  I will always design the one I think looks best for you.

VINE MONOGRAM

Definitely one of our best-selling monogram styles.  Please note I's and J's look very similar.  This is a style you just can't go wrong with.  All of the letters are just beautiful and join together perfectly.  I do use connectors to make the charms more secure and stronger.

Color Chart

It seems like each time I "do" a color chart, I end up adding new colors within a week or two.  Hence, my color chart never seems to be up to date.  Shown below are {most} of the colors I have available now.  Not shown:  mirrored bronze, mirrored gold, mirrored teal, and ivory (how did I miss that one?!)  I'm waiting to update the current chart because I have three new colors coming in soon!  Electric green, coral and pink shock should be here soon.

Welcome friends

It is with great pleasure that I begin this informational blog showcasing my work at ElizaJayCharm.  Though I began ElizaJayCharm in 2011, my love of letters began more than three decades ago.  I have always loved letters, alphabets and the written word.  Typography, calligraphy and graphic design fuel my passion for creating lovely lettered things.

My designs are created in my Belmont, NC studio which is right across the street from my home.  I use plastics, acrylics, ceramics, and metal in the creation of my work.  My hope is that you, too, will see the beauty of letter inspired design in each of the pieces I create.

"Do what you love and love what you do."  I. just. love. letters!
